The Junior League hosted a summer art camp at the Family Resource Center on June 7-10 and June 14-17 this year. Committee members Peyton Jones, Tara Maddox, Ellen Petit, Stephanie Battle, Paula Ede, Dawn Isabell, Ashely Norman and committee chair Corina Flatten worked to put on Cowboy Art Camp at the FRC.
Each day a new art activity was introduced to the children of the FRC and committee members assisted them as they completed the daily project. Art projects included Western pictures frames, leather and bead coasters, personalized cowboy bandanas and horse nametags. One day they created a tasty treat and decorated cowboy sugar cookies.
The campers were treated to a day of Zumba taught by Peyton Jones as well as healthy meal planning by Ashley Amos and the Kids in the Kitchen committee.
The last day of camp was a party! Kids participated in western games, like the three-legged race and pin the tail on the donkey, played on the giant blow up super slide, browsed the book fair where they each chose 2 books to take home and enjoyed pizza and cupcakes for lunch.
The Junior League’s involvement in the FRC Summer Camp is an enrichment to an already exisitng summer camp program but I assure you once you have interacted with these amazing kids you will feel the enrichment in your life!
