A big "Thank You" from the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto
Community Assistance Fund grants awarded in the Fall, 2011
Shorkey Center- The money will go towards replacing two computers which are used to keep files and data on clients. They are facing a possible disruption of service without replacing these.
Gift of Love- The Gift of Life foundation is often contacted by cancer victims who don’t fall under their umbrella, but who nevertheless need financial assistance while being treated for cancer. This will be the initial donation that sets up a new program called “The Gift of Love”. It will offer, for instance, grocery cards to those who are struggling financially while being treated for cancer.
Habitat for Humanity- They requested funding to repair the truck that hauls their equipment, lumber, etc to habitat jobsites, as well as money for power tools. We awarded the amount of the emergency truck repair.
Girl Scouts of San Jacinto- This funding will purchase program supplies for girls to earn badges and participate in Girl Scouting, while building skills which will prepare them to succeed academically and socially. The program aids in developing basic life skills, social conscience and leadership capacity while teaching the girls about unique challenges and pressures of being female in today’s society. This gift will reach 525 at risk girls with in-school Girl Scouting programming.
Inspire, Encourage, Achieve- The money will go towards funding a program on Global Youth Service Day which mentors youth in the juvenile justice system and teaches them to prepare healthy and creative meal options using the food that IEA distributes every month from the SETX Food Bank. They will use this knowledge to plan and prepare a meal for Some Other Place, with the hope that it will increase civic engagement and social responsibility in these at-risk youth.
